Greater Steps Scholars to Celebrate 40 Years of Increasing Economic Mobility Among Charlotte Youth
The Organization Will Recognize Scholar Recipients and Special Partners Who Have Helped Young Adults to Change The Trajectory of Their Lives.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 18 – Greater Steps Scholars is hosting its 40th Anniversary Believers & Achievers Gala to celebrate four decades of legacy in providing Charlotte youth with the opportunity to increase their economic mobility through the power of education. The event will highlight the organization’s impact since its inception, while raising money for Greater Steps Scholars to provide more youth who live in public or subsidized housing an opportunity and expectation of a college education.
The Greater Steps Scholars Believers and Achievers Gala, sponsored by Wells Fargo, will take place on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Atrium. The event will reunite friends and supporters who have been helping to bridge the gap in economic inequality since 1983. The gala will also recognize past scholar graduates, as well as 2020 Founder’s Award, Partner’s Award and Mission Award honorees who missed public recognition during the pandemic.
“The organization was founded to fight against poverty by giving some of our most underserved students access to education,” said Greaters Steps Scholars Executive Director, Aisha Strothers. “We are proud of 40 years of influence in supporting what is today, some of Charlotte’s most brilliant and impactful professionals. Our organization has great reason to celebrate the many individuals and partners who help to make our work possible, as well as the young adults who have set their lives on a new path and overcome anticipated outcomes based on their household income as a child.”
Founded 40 years ago by Dr. John T. Crawford, Greaters Steps Scholars has disrupted the cycle of poverty for nearly 1,000 students through scholarships, one-on-one mentor support, workshops that teach career, financial and life skills, as well as access to potential internships and career opportunities. The 40th Anniversary Believers & Achievers Gala will pay tribute to these achievements throughout an evening of cocktails, presentations, live music by The Harvey Cummings Project, dinner, a silent auction and a portrait/photo station. Proceeds from the gala will support scholarships and programs for Greater Steps Scholars’ recipients.
Individual tickets and table sponsorships are available for purchase at www.fftc.org/GreaterStepsGala.
